Exploring Our Potential On Track Via Data Analysis

Brian Conway is a Tallaght native who has a passion for life on two wheels.

While he preferred his motorcycles to be of the acoustic variety, he can be forgiven for reaching an incredible standard, indeed he went on to be a national champion in the pursuit class. He was all set for the London Olympics in 2012 until his path to glory was stymied by an illness.

But his loss is our gain as since then he’s spent four years studying in UWTSD, a Welsh university that specialises in data led engineering. He then went on to earn a masters degree with the National Motorsport Academy studying Advanced Motorsport Engineering.

These days he’s a data engineer who works with motorcycle racers and trackday enthusiasts helping them to explore their potential. This involves learning to lap cleaner and faster thanks to understanding their bikes better. This results in better and therefore, more enjoyable and safer riding.

While he works with riders at the circuits and in the pit garages, he can now be found at Motocraft events. He’s also available to consult in the off season when many of us are prepping our bikes for the coming year. This is when his advice can be deemed to be incredibly useful as it’s when we tend to spend money on modifying our machines in the interests of getting the most from them.

As riders, understanding how and why we do things is critical. The more information that we have, the better we ride, the better we ride the more fun that we have. Simple as. Brians ability to use the data to analyse his clients riding and make real world recommendations from the simplest solutions to the most expensive is more than comprehensive.

Brian elaborates; ‘I know what it feels like to be a champion. Helping riders such as the 14 year old Kade Watt win his BEMSEE Formula 400 championship was amazing. Seeing riders come back into a pit garage smiling makes all the work so worth while. Everyone should feel like a champion!

He can be found on the social channels and on www.crossovermotorsports.com. While his calendar is busy he will be at a number of Motocraft events next year. If you want to get in touch you can email him at [email protected] or send him a WhatsApp message at +44 (0) 7496 169889.
